It’s safe to say George Mason University will never see another fan like Trevor Scambos.
During his time at George Mason, Scambos became known on campus for his sunny disposition and, especially, his devotion to Patriot basketball. He attended every home game, befriended the coach and players, and was even awarded an unofficial reserved seat in the Patriot Center.
Scambos completes his studies in the Mason Learning into Future Environments (LIFE) program this month. Mason LIFE provides an inclusive university experience to young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and is one of only 31 such programs in the United States that offers a four-year residential component as well.
Through Mason LIFE’s employment opportunities, Scambos was able to intern on Capitol Hill with Mississippi Congressman Gregg Harper, and with former Mason president Alan Merten. Currently, he’s works for Dining Services at Southside.
Scambos was awarded a Patriot team jersey at the Senior Night basketball game held in March. He offers this advice to new students: “Be the biggest fan,” he said. “Be as a Patriot student. This is what I came for. This is why I came here.”
