gradfestAs final exams begin for students this week, Commencement is just around the corner. Seniors will soon begin saying goodbyes to friends, faculty and staff members who have meant so much to them during their time at George Mason University.

To celebrate and recognize the accomplishments of Mason graduates, a series of events called GradFest, now in its fourth year, will begin May 10.

The second annual toast,  Graduation Celebration: A Toast to Our Graduates, is a highlight of GradFest and will take place on Wednesday, May 15, on the North Plaza from 5:30 to 7 p.m. This event for Mason graduates and their family members is a celebration but also allows seniors to recognize faculty and staff members who have helped them on their journey. Each student who RSVPs may recognize up to four faculty or staff members who have touched their lives while at Mason. An invitation is sent to those faculty and staff members to attend.

“A Graduation Celebration is all about honoring student achievements and rejoicing with family. And, for the student, it’s a chance to recognize those who meant so much to them while at Mason,” says Dennis Hicks, associate director of Student Involvement. “Without a doubt, they have touched the lives of many of the students who will be walking throughout campus in caps and gowns next week.”

Toasts will be offered to the Class of 2013 by Rose Pascarell, vice president for University Life; Chris Preston, Alumni Association president-elect; and Kierstin Fowler, 2014 class council president.

A group photo will also be taken in front of the George Mason statue. Graduation cap decorating supplies will be available, and refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served at the event. Graduates will receive a commemorative Mason alumni champagne flute as a gift.

The last day to RSVP to this event is May 10.

GradFest is sponsored by The Office of University Life, Career Services and the Alumni Association. More information on other upcoming GradFest events can be found on the website.
