In an exciting first-round game of the 16-team Collegiate Basketball Invitational presented by Buick, the George Mason men’s basketball team earned another day on the court, as they beat the College of Charleston Cougars, 78-77, on Tuesday night in Charleston.

Going into the game, Mason was 18-14, while the Cougars finished their season at 24-10.

Mason made its 12th postseason appearance and the fifth in the last six seasons.

The Patriots now move on to next Monday’s quarterfinals; they will await the winner of the Texas-Houston game, which will be played Wednesday night.

The CBI presented by Buick is a single-elimination tournament up until the “best-of-three” Championship Series, with all games played at campus sites. After the Opening Round games, the Quarterfinal Round will take place on Monday, March 25, followed by the Semifinal Round on Wednesday, March 27. Prior to the semifinals, the remaining teams will be re-bracketed. The Championship Series is a best-of-three in which one team will host two of the three games. Those games will be played on April 1, April 3, and April 5. Follow the Patriots in action at
