Whether it’s getting a new driver’s license or updating address information, everyone has to make a trip to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) sooner or later and wait their turn.
But the DMV has made that easier with a mobile unit called DMV 2 Go, which will be on George Mason University campuses again this summer. Faculty, staff, students and community members are welcome to use this service on a first-come, first-served basis.
DMV 2 Go has been made available to Mason since 2011 and makes an appearance on campuses once in the spring, summer and fall. On their most recent visit to campus in April, DMV 2 Go helped 95 people with driver’s licenses, vehicle registrations, road tests and ID cards.
Providing full DMV service at Mason allows students, staff and faculty to take care of DMV business without leaving campus. To celebrate the partnership between George Mason and DMV 2 Go bus, there will be a ribbon cutting on Tuesday, June 25, at 10 a.m. on the Fairfax Campus. The ribbon cutting will include a tour of the bus and refreshments.
“We are excited about Mason’s partnership with DMV and their DMV 2 Go program,” says Linda H. Harber, associate vice president of Human Resources and Payroll. “It helps us serve our faculty and staff by making their lives easier and more convenient.”
Equipped with the latest technology, the vehicle offers services such as applying for or renewing IDs or driver’s licenses, obtaining vehicle titles or license plates and updating addresses.
DMV 2 Go will be available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the following locations this summer:
- Arlington Campus ― Thursday, June 20, in front of Founder’s Hall
- Prince William Campus ― Friday, June 21, in the Freedom Center South Lot
- Fairfax Campus ― Monday and Tuesday, June 24-25 in the University Hall Parking Lot
Information regarding specific services on the DMV 2 Go bus can be found on the DMV 2 Go flyer.
